A $1.5 billion health care construction boom sustains Memphis economy

Dec 19, 2012 — From the end of 2010 to 2015, investments in new buildings or renovation projects in the 14,000-acre Memphis Medical Center alone will total about $1.5 billion. The new Le Bonheur Children's Hospital cost $340 million. Demolishing the old Baptist Hospital building and developing the UT/Baptist Research Park is expected to cost $450 million by 2015. The new tower under construction now at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will cost $190 million. New classroom space at the Southern College of Optometry will cost $9.4 million.... more»
